It has been too long since we updated you about the progress at Foundation Baptist College. God has given us much grace this year and many exciting things are happening.
We have now formed a partnership with Maranatha Baptist University, giving our graduates a pathway to a fully accredited degree. You can read about more of the details here.
In September last year, Pastor Bud Talbert transferred the presidency to Dr. Joel Arnold. Joel plans to continue and extend the hard work that Pastor Bud has poured into the college in the last 13 years of FBC’s history.
We celebrated the graduation of Pastor Logan Seibert with a Bachelor of Science in biblical studies and two men who achieved a certificate in Biblical Studies—Pastor Jeff McConnell and Murget Joseph. You can watch the full ceremony here.
We were grateful that Dr. Andrew Minnick joined us for the Spring 2023 semester, launching our Greek program and making administrative investments. He also taught the year with an excellent block class on Basic Bible Study Skills.
That brings us to the present:
This summer we consolidated our library, lining the walls with books and creating a new space that is dedicated to the college. This was a mammoth job. But it looks great and has the added benefit of surrounding our students with books!
We have now made all of our classes fully available online. While we encourage in-person studies because it will always be the best learning experience, having an online option opens up these classes for students who could not otherwise study with us at all. And because so many of our students are juggling complex schedules, we also created a new semi-block class schedule that meets on six Saturday mornings from 8:30-12:30. Each of these changes has increased the people who can study with us.
We are offering seven classes this semester. This schedule both fits our students’ needs and offers opportunities to the many audit students studying for personal growth. Take a look and consider joining us! You can quickly and easily sign-up here.
We are already off to a great start with Early Church History taught by Ken Lawson. The room is full with more students online.
One class has us particularly excited. Five men with many decades of combined ministry experience in Alberta will teach a graduate level class on pastoral theology. The topics covered will be both broad and profoundly practical.
The Debbie Talbert Memorial Fund
Debbie Talbert was profoundly influential in the establishment of Foundation Baptist College; it surprises no one who knew her that she established a fund at her passing to strengthen the ministry of Foundation Baptist College. The Debbie Talbert Memorial Scholarship Fund exists to provide for students who could not otherwise afford to take classes. A number of donors have already given to establish the fund at over $2500 and the first scholarship recipient is a man pursuing the ministry who will be able to take Pastoral Theology this Fall because of the scholarship. Please let us know if you would like to add to this fund and we will ensure that your gift goes directly to help students with their tuition.
Free Resources
We plan to share a free resource in each edition of this update. This spring Joel Arnold was asked to speak for the Alberta Home Educator’s Association where he shared a philosophy of education. Here are the notes and presentation graphics for his talk, tracing educational philosophy across the history of philosophy.
Thank you for your interest, your support and your prayers!
